Saturday
Finally, after three days waiting, it is Saturday afternoon
and time for the 1500M races. Although there is lots of sun, there is also a lot
of wind, sustained 22mph winds with gusts up to 30mph. No problem, right?
1A 1500 - There is a lot of quality
competition in this years 1500M run. The qualifying cut-off time for state was
under 5:17, over six seconds faster than 2009. Arden was well positioned to earn
her first state championship medal and complete one of her goals for the year.
The only problem for Arden was getting ready mentally, after not running
competitively for over a week she was having a harder than usual time getting
pumped for the race. Regardless, it was show time and she had a large audience
in the stadium to cheer her on. |

Iowa State Track & Field Championships 2010

Thursday
After a wrenching Regional's I could hardly wait for the Iowa
State Track & Field Championships to begin. But alas, Wednesday came as
scheduled and the Betzer family headed to Des Moines for several days of rest
and relaxation. Well, actually there would be neither until after Arden
completed her run in the 1500M Finals, and with the 1500 be contested Saturday
afternoon, that meant three days of track with an overtone of hope and
expectations - made the rest part hard but the time was relaxing, just somewhat
anxious.
The Girls 3000M run was contested early Thursday AM so we got
to the Drake Stadium well in advance to enjoy the show, and what a show it was.
Even without Arden competing due to the infamous hair pony, this is a race we
thoroughly enjoy as there are numerous girls from Eastern Iowa that Arden
competes against all year.

Cross Country really helped Arden in track this year, she
has had a nice track season and won the 3000M and 1500M Tri-Rivers Conference
Championships this past week. Arden has beaten quite a few 3000M/1500M state
medalist during the season and continues to run well.
It was a huge relief to get to Regional’s last night, with
the next stop being State. Arden has been focusing hard on her 3000/1500 combo
where her times have been good enough to qualify for state and medal.
